GIVING YOUNG FEMALES FROM RURAL CAMBODIAN COMMUNITIES THE CHANCE TO HARNESS THEIR ABILITIES AND MAKE THE MOST OF THEIR LIVES
Chances 4 Cambodia (C4C) is a small non-profit organization in Phnom Penh Cambodia supporting the daughters of Khmer Rouge victims from under-developed regions of Cambodia, empowering and supporting them to obtain a University degree from a Government University in Phnom Penh. Chances4cambodia is a privately funded, fully transparent organization:
FUNDING AND SUSTAINABILITY
C4C provides interest free student loans, empowering disadvantaged young women from rural provinces to obtain a university education in Phnom Penh Cambodia. Chances4Cambodia rely on the support of generous donors, volunteers and the sponsored students to make donations through our website or directly into C4C’s bank accounts in Australia and Cambodia .
Funding covers all educational expenses for students this includes University tuition fees, textbooks, other school supplies, a monthly allowance and other expenses as determined by the Management of C4C. What makes C4C unique is that upon graduation and entering the work force, C4C sponsored students are required to repay their loan through a budgeted payback plan, thus ensuring the sustainability of the program. Furthermore, the graduated students are required to mentor current students to help ensure that they also graduate and remain connected to our organization. C4C is in the enviable position of having a 100% success rate with all 28 graduated students gainfully employed, supporting their families, and repaying their loans. A further 12 students are currently in the program with more to come. This year, with your support, we hope to expand the program to include 6 new students.
VOLUNTEERS: Getting involved
C4C is an all-volunteer organization. All support staff, from English tutors to fundraisers, work for free. This means that every dollar donated goes directly to support the students; their tuition, books, housing, and living allowances. Volunteers offer their services as English teachers and provide life skills. We are currently seeking English speaking females interested in spending time in Cambodia, living and teaching in the girls’ dormitory. In addition to teaching English, we would also welcome volunteers interested in teaching communication skills, critical thinking, decision making and leadership. The young women in the program are highly motivated and appreciate the opportunity to learn from foreigners.
HOUSING: The Student’s Power Dorm
All students are housed in the Chances4cambodia girls power dormitory, a fully self-contained 4 story modern building managed by the students under the supervision of C4C staff. The house rules are set by the students in conjunction with the C4C staff. The four-story building has the capacity to house a maximum of 30 student girls.
Hi my name is Sreymom Mey. I was born in Chey Kompork Commune in Prey Veng Province, Cambodia. My father and mother are both farmers. I graduated high school from the Japanese-Cambodia Friendship School in 2011. Fortunately, I was selected by Chances4cambodia to enter their program and receive an interest-free student loan. I moved to Phnom Penh where I attended The National University of Management to study banking and finance. During my four years in the program, C4C supported me financially, and provided me with the educational support to ensure that I graduate. I now have a job as an accountant and am repaying my student loan every month. Without the help of C4C, I would surely now be helping my parents grow rice in Prey Veng.
All of the girls pictured above now have jobs and are helping their families to a better future. We have many other success stories of our 28 successful graduates that we are happy to share about our students now in the workforce helping themselves and their families to a better life.
We need your help to continue to grow our program and support more impoverished young women from the provinces.
