Report for Chances4Cambodia
This December, I had the opportunity to interact and live in the C4C House with the C4C girls for two weeks and help them with their English.
Steve gave me a lot of freedom when it came to what I wanted to teach, so I took the liberty to experiment with different teaching methods like videos and games. One night, the girls even taught me basic Khmer, which was awesome. Other than teaching English, I also briefly helped a girl who wanted to learn Mandarin.
The girls are of a similar age to me, so we bonded like sisters. They took great care of me and even gave me rides on their motorbikes around the city. They also joined me for a short weekend getaway to Siem Reap, where we had a ton of fun.
The girls are all very diligent, and most of them work part time on top of having to fulfill their university commitments. I can also tell that the girls take care of and support each other, which is really important because most of them have come to Phnom Penh from Prey Veng without their families. The C4C dorm is a simple concept but I think it really allows the girls to ease into the city life so that they can secure a better future for themselves.
